Do you believe in God or about God? One of the biggest problems believers face in today's world is distraction. There are all kinds of distractions around us each and every single day. Some which include cell phones, T.V., internet, and video games. Each can be very entertaining, otherwise people would not spend so much time with them. The bad thing about each one of these, is that they take away our time with God if we are not using them wisely. As mentioned above, distractions are one of the biggest problems we as Christians face today because not only do they take away our focus on God, but they can also lead us away from God, which can later lead us to spiritual deadliness, if we do not do something about it.
Getting to the point, there are people who believe in God, and there are people who believe about God. "So what's the difference" you may ask? Many people in the world today say "I believe in God" but do they really believe in Him? Maybe, maybe not. Believing in God and believing about God, have two totally different meanings. Now of course we are not to judge others based on their appearance but to believe in God, we first have to believe that He exist and that He loves us. Second, we are required to repent of all our sins. That means we are to turn away from them. Third, believing in God requires a personal relationship with God. So is praying another word for relationship? No, a relationship with God is much more than just asking God to give us what we need and to give us what we want but to have a relationship with God, we must first admit that we need God and that He cares for us. A relationship with God requires obedience as well, in order to be considered a relationship. The difference between believing in, and believing about is that when we say we believe in God, we must act accordingly to what the word of God says. That means we are to obey the ten commandments and to live our lives as best as we can for Jesus Christ our Savior. When a person believes about God, it means that they believe God exist, but they don't take the time to really get to know God. People who believe about God are the people who you see claiming to be a Christian but really have no idea on what it takes to become a Christian. Those are the types of people who believe the Bible is true but don't act accordingly to what it says.
John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth IN him should not perish, but have everlasting life." You notice he did not say whosoever believeth about him, he said, "whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." For if we believe in Him, we will have everlasting life.
1 John 1:7-9 says "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Only if we walk in the light. If we are not walking in the light, then we don't have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ will not cleanse us from all sin. But notice in the last sentence it says "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." As long as you have confessed your sins and repented of them, and are walking in the light, then you have nothing to worry about because your name is already written in the Lamb's Book Of Life.
