Important notice: Always check out what you hear and see for yourself, as it is up to you as a Christian to do your own studying. Never take anyone's word alone, including this website here, without first always checking it out for yourself. As 2 Timothy 2:15 says "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Exodus 33
1 And the LORD said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:
2 And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:
3 Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.
As we can see, GOD was very angry with them for the way they turned their backs on HIM for false gods/idols, and HE had every right to be after all HE had already did for them and brought them through; even giving them the very life they have. If you're married, then you can imagine how HE would feel, as it's basically the same feeling as if you found out your spouse was having an affair behind your back and you knew you had treated them and provided for them in the very best way possible; you would be very angry, upset, and disappointed too, to where you wouldn't want them back in your sight again, especially right after you discovered it. Though our HEAVENLY FATHER can forgive and did forgive the Israelites as we will see, it's completely understandable why HE allows divorce in cases of adultery/fornication because HE knows the hurt and destruction it brings into people's lives that have had to experience it, as HE HIMself has had to experience it multiple times from HIS people, which is supposed to be HIS bride (spiritually speaking). This is exactly why you want to make sure you're prepared for these end times and that you're not deceived by the spurious messiah (satan) and his one-world beast system because unfortunately many "Christians" will mistake him as Jesus, and will worship him as the savior of these end times. That's why Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 11 to present ourselves as chaste virgins (spiritually speaking) at the return of our TRUE CHRIST, at the last trumpet, because those who are taken out of season during the sixth trumpet, it will not be a good feeling for them at all when they realize they had been worshipping the fake (satan); Revelation 6:15-16 tells us they will be so ashamed of themselves and embarrassed that they will wish for the mountains to fall upon them. Just as disobedience to GOD comes with consequences as we see here and in the last chapter with the Israelites, so will it come with those who are taken out of season, who do not remain faithful and chaste (spiritually speaking) for our TRUE MESSIAH (JESUS CHRIST) at HIS return. Know the season and be prepared to stand against satan and his one-world system because surely you don't want to stand before GOD (the very MAKER of your soul) as a failure. See also: "A Warning Against The Rapture", "The Return of JESUS CHRIST", "The Mark of The beast", "What Is Hell?", Romans 3:4.
4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.
Our HEAVENLY FATHER is in no way evil but this would come across to the Israelites who were caught in the act of idolatry (spiritual adultery) as bad tidings (i.e. bad news) because they knew they had done wrong and that the wrath of GOD was possibly against them. These "ornaments" that they were instructed to take off were fancy decorative pieces they wore to worship the golden calf.
5 For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked (i.e. churlish) people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.
6 And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.
7 And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the LORD went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp.
Moses set up the tabernacle outside of the camp because he knew that GOD was angry with the Israelites as he had just told them. After Moses set it up, the people followed because they knew things were not right between them and GOD, and this was their way of repentance and trying to make things right.
8 And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the tabernacle.
9 And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses.
10 And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.
11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.
12 And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.
13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.
14 And he (= the LORD) said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
15 And he (= Moses) said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
In other words, Moses wanted to stay where they were if GOD decided not to send HIS presence with him.
16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.
In other words, Moses is saying that if GOD goes with them, then they will know that HE is pleased with them and that they have found grace in HIS sight, and if HE doesn't go with them, then they will not know if HE is pleased with them and have found grace in HIS sight.
17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
18 And he (= Moses) said, I beseech (i.e. entreat) thee, shew me thy glory.
19 And he (= the LORD) said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
20 And he (= the LORD) said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
Why? Because GOD is in another dimension (Heaven) and the only way to see that dimension would be to die first and as 1 Corinthians 15:50 says "Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption". Also our FATHER's face and presence is so wonderful that no one could withstand HIS awesomeness in a flesh body (corruptible body).
21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
Spiritually speaking, CHRIST is our rock in which we stand on today, and our solid foundation. See also: Psalm 18:2.
22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift (i.e. crevice) of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
