Important notice: Always check out what you hear and see for yourself, as it is up to you as a Christian to do your own studying. Never take anyone's word alone, including this website here, without first always checking it out for yourself. As 2 Timothy 2:15 says "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Genesis 9
1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
Why did GOD bless them? Because of their obedience towards HIM. Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. GOD's commandment to them.
2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
Beast = living thing as in Genesis 3:1. Earth (ʼădâmâh) = the ground. GOD gives us power over all of our enemies as long as we use knowledge, wisdom, and ask in HIS name. See also Luke 10:17-20.
3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
Referring to every clean animal. See Leviticus 11.
4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
In other words, always drain the blood of an animal before you eat it. Life (nephesh) = soul. "Blood thereof" is the essence and the foundation of the doctrine of substitution and atonement = "life for life". For the wages of sin is death... (Romans 6:23) and without shedding of blood [and thus giving up the life] is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22).
5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.
6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
GOD inserted these new laws with this fresh start, with hopes to prevent man from falling away as quickly compared to before the flood. This lets us know that if a person commits murder (plans ahead to end someone's life), then they are to be put to death by the community, so that GOD can work it out with the murderer and the one murdered. I.e. capital punishment. If our government still forced this law like it used to, you would start seeing quite a decrease in crimes, because people would think again before committing them; instead many prisoners serving life sentences receive better care than some homeless people and even some veterans. Image of God = Image of ʼĕlôhîym. See also Genesis 1:27, Genesis 3:7.
7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
8 And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,
9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;
This being an eternal covenant. See also Galatians 3:16.
10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.
11 And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth (ʼerets).
12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations (eternity):
Token (ʼôwth) = sign. See also Isaiah 54:9-10.
13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
Bow = rainbow. See also Ezekiel 1:28, Revelation 4:3.
14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
GOD's promise to never flood the earth (ʼerets) again.
17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan.
Note that Canaan hasn't been born yet, but here GOD lets us know who Canaan's father is. Why is that? Below we will see in verse 22.
19 These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.
Referring to the adamic race. Again, this being the family that CHRIST came through from umbilical cord to umbilical cord; the one with the perfect pedigree that we studied in the last two chapters (Genesis 6,7); that had not intermixed with the fallen angels that were trying to disrupt the seedline of CHRIST.
20 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
Began to be = was. Hebrew idiom. Compare Luke 12:1, Matthew 26:37, Mark 10:41, Luke 3:23, Mark 11:15. Husbandman: Hebrew man of the ground, i.e. giving himself to tillage. Compare "man of war" = a soldier (Joshua 5:4); "man of blood" = a murderer (2 Samuel 16:7); "man of cattle" = a shepherd or grazier (Genesis 46:32); "man of words" = eloquent (Exodus 4:10).
21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
Here is a Hebrew idiom that means Ham slept with his father's wife, i.e. his mother. See also Leviticus 18:1-8, Leviticus 20:11. Please note that this is not how the black race was started, nor were black people cursed because of this act. Do not ever believe anyone who would say such. If you've read Genesis 1, then you know that all races were created on the sixth day (אָדָ֛ם 'adam) and as it's written in verse thirty-one, "it was very good".
23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.
In other words they didn't look upon their mother as Ham did.
24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son (middle child) had done unto him.
In other words he became very much awake, awake to wisdom.
25 And he (Noah) said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
He wasn't happy.
26 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
28 And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.
29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.
Why did GOD bless them? Because of their obedience towards HIM. Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. GOD's commandment to them.
