Important notice: Always check out what you hear and see for yourself, as it is up to you as a Christian to do your own studying. Never take anyone's word alone, including this website here, without first always checking it out for yourself. As 2 Timothy 2:15 says "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Genesis 3
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
As we all know, snakes don't talk and neither was this some sort of special snake that was in the Garden of Eden either. The word "serpent" is a name used to describe satan. After all, he is always trying to twist GOD's WORD into deceiving others, just like he is in this verse. Revelation 12:9 even says "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world..." Ezekiel 28:12-13 also talks about satan (Tyrus) being in the Garden of Eden. satan is described as "subtle" which means cunning (usually in a bad sense as described here) because he is very wise. he thinks he is better than anyone else including GOD, which is what led to his downfall in the first world age.
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
As you know from the last chapter, this tree mentioned here is talking about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (satan); the tree Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) and Eve were told specifically not to eat from, nor touch. Pay close attention to this word "touch" though. The word "touch" in the Hebrew is a euphemism that means "to lie with a woman". So in other words when translated over into the English (the KJV), instead of using the word intercourse, they thought "touch" would be a nicer way of wording it. Also if you look up the word "tree" in a Hebrew dictionary (Strong's Exhaustive Concordance), you will see that it is 'ets (H6086) which comes from 'atsah (H6095), which is a primitive root; properly, to fasten (or make firm), i.e. to close (the eyes):—shut. Also 'atseh (H6096) comes from H6095 ('atsah) as well, and that means the spine (as giving firmness to the body):—backbone. The Bible describes us as trees. Our spine being the trunk, and our arms being the limbs. See also Jeremiah 17:7-8.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
Again, satan is twisting GOD's WORD by lying to them.
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Notice the word "eat" mentioned in this verse. In the Hebrew it is ʼâkal, and it means "to eat (literally or figuratively)". As we know from what act is taking place in this chapter, we know that it means figuratively.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
Notice that they were naked here and sewed fig leaves to make themselves aprons. As we all know, an apron covers your lower body, not your mouth, and in this case they made an apron to cover their nakedness. Why else would they cover their nakedness if their sin was eating an apple? After all the word "apple" is not even mentioned anywhere in this chapter or anywhere else in the Bible when it comes to Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) and Eve's sin in the Garden of Eden. Now some people might wonder how could Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) possibly have committed the same sin as Eve did, and to answer that, he either participated in a homosexual act or either satan disguised himself to look like a woman and deceived him. Either way as scripture states, he participated in the act as well. Remember also from Ezekiel 28, that satan (tyrus = [false] rock]) was one of the most beautiful created? So it would be no surprise as to why they found him attractive. Note that this is even the origin of the parable of the fig tree as CHRIST spoke of in Mark 13 & Matthew 24 when HE said for us to learn it, which is a commandment.
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
Here you can see they hid from GOD because they were afraid. They knew right from wrong and what GOD had told them and yet they still listened to satan anyway.
9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
Here Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) is trying to lay the blame on Eve, but he knew just as well as Eve did not to partake of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (satan) either.
13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
2 Corinthians 11:3 is another documentation for what is mentioned of here. It says "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ." Beguiled in the Greek only has one meaning which is "to seduce wholly". There is no other meaning to it. So now we can see why GOD told Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) and Eve not to partake of the tree in the midst of the garden (satan). Remember that Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) and Eve are the start of CHRIST's genealogy. satan very well knew this and that is why he went on with the act and deceived them, because it was his attempt at disrupting the seed line by which CHRIST couldn't be born. As we all know though, his plan didn't succeed.
14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
This is a statement of degradation from GOD that satan will never rise above that and is a lot like the one mentioned in Micah 7:17. satan can no longer receive the gift of salvation.
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
The seed mentioned here is talking about children. satan knew exactly that through this woman would eventually come CHRIST; through umbilical cord to umbilical cord, and so he thought he would try and stop it, and so that is why he seduced Eve. satan's seed will bruise CHRIST's heels on the cross as it has already happened, but CHRIST will ultimately in the end crush satan's head. That is why CHRIST taught us in Matthew 13 about the parable of the sower; HE said that if we cannot understand that, then we won't be able to understand any other parable in which HE taught.
16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
GOD sentenced Eve to greater sorrow in child birth. HE didn't give her a stomach ache for eating too many apples, but instead HE gave her greater sorrow in child birth for having intercourse with satan. Again, you won't find apples mentioned anywhere in the Bible for the sin that Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) and Eve committed here in the Garden of Eden.
17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
Many people mistake this verse's meaning as if we all came from Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) and Eve but this is not at all what it means. Eve is called the mother of all living because it was through her offspring by umbilical cord to umbilical cord that JESUS CHRIST would eventually be born and we can only have eternal life through HIM (John 3:16). Again, that is why satan seduced Eve because it was his attempt of trying to prevent CHRIST from being born.
21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
Why did they need clothes? Because again it was to cover their nakedness from their sin with satan.
22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
CHRIST was and is the TREE of LIFE. HE was in the Garden of Eden just as satan was, but in no way though was the word "touch" used when it talks about partaking of HIM; instead the word is "take". CHRIST was and is the TREE of LIFE in which only TRUE righteousness and the WORD of SALVATION can be partaken from. Instead of Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) and Eve partaking of the TREE of LIFE (GOD) and receiving righteousness, they chose to partake of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (satan) by having intercourse. "Take" and "touch" are two completely different words, with two completely different meanings. So DO NOT think that GOD was telling them to commit the same act they did with satan, with HIM. So again with the TREE of LIFE (CHRIST), they could have chose to receive righteousness but instead they partook of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (satan) and received punishments. Always listen to GOD because HE is our eternal life. Through no other can we be Saved. See Acts 4:12.
23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
CHRIST is the only WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE, no one else. See John 14:6. Live for HIM everyday.
