Important notice: Always check out what you hear and see for yourself, as it is up to you as a Christian to do your own studying. Never take anyone's word alone, including this website here, without first always checking it out for yourself. As 2 Timothy 2:15 says "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Genesis 5
1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
The words "he him" are added words in the English translation, as they are not written in the original Hebrew manuscripts.
2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
This verse is referring to the 6th day creation mentioned back in Genesis 1 as the word "Adam" does not have the Hebrew article or particle. Remember CHRIST included HIMself in that 27th verse, for when that time would come, and below starting with the next verse, is the list of HIS genealogy. It was through these people that eventually would come our SAVIOR (JESUS CHRIST). Again, keep in mind that Adam without the article refers to mankind (male and female of all races), while Adam with the article refers to the specific individual ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm); again the one that CHRIST would eventually come through. Below is Adam's ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) genealogy, i.e. the same as CHRIST's.
3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth:
Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm, i.e. the particular man). Notice that you will not see Cain listed anywhere in Adam's ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) genealogy because again he was not of the offspring of Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm), but instead satan. The reason Seth is given first is because Abel was murdered by Cain and he (Abel) had no descendants.
4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:
5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
Again, keep in mind that one day with the LORD is a thousand years of our time (2 Peter 3:8). Notice you will not see anyone live past that time of a thousand years (1 day). GOD promised Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) that if he partook from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (satan), that he would die, and sure enough he did. As we continue on throughout this chapter, notice how much alike the names are compared to the names of Cain's genealogy (the kenites). GOD wants us to be able to see the difference between the bloodlines.
6 And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:
7 And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:
8 And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.
Another thing to notice is how much the lifespan begins to decrease as we go throughout time; most likely due to mankind's pollutants upon the earth, along with sin, and mankind's separation from GOD.
9 And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:
Cainan means a possession.
10 And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:
11 And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.
12 And Cainan lived seventy years and begat Mahalaleel:
Mahalaleel means praise of GOD.
13 And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters:
14 And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.
15 And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared:
Jared means descent.
16 And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters:
17 And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.
18 And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch:
Enoch means teaching, or initiation. Keep in mind this is not the same Enoch mentioned in Cain's genealogy (Genesis 4).
19 And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
20 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.
21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:
Methuselah means man of the dart.
22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
Note that this Enoch was a very good person, who walked with GOD, and preached for GOD. As you can see here, he becomes the first one to be transfigured
23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him (i.e. without dying).
Instead of dying in this flesh, Enoch was instead translated or transfigured. Enoch is also the 7th from Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm). He prophesied with "faith"; he preached about Cain and who the kenites were, and even the fallen angels as we will see in the next chapter. See also Hebrews 11:5-6, Jude 1:14-15. Keep in mind that when JESUS CHRIST returns again one day, that HE returns at the 7th trumpet, when we are transformed into our spiritual bodies. See also "A Warning Against The Rapture".
25 And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech.
Lamech means powerful.
26 And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters:
27 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
Note that Methuselah is the oldest person to ever live in the flesh.
28 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:
29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.
Noah means rest, comfort, or consolation.
30 And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters:
31 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.
32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Note that these names are reversed from youngest to oldest; Shem being the youngest and Japheth being the oldest. Keep in mind that it took Noah a very long time to find a wife due to the influx of the fallen angels, i.e. those who came to earth without GOD's permission to have an offspring with the descendant daughters of Adam ('eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm) and Eve, in attempt to disrupt the seed line of JESUS CHRIST. More information in the next chapter.
The words "he him" are added words in the English translation, as they are not written in the original Hebrew manuscripts.
