Leviticus 2
1 And when any will offer a meat (i.e. meal) offering unto the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil (i.e. olive oil) upon it, and put frankincense thereon:
This meat offering was the meal offering, and the fine flour that was used was a prime item, as it wasn't just grounded but perfect and ready, with no unevenness; the same applies to the life of the Antitype it represented (JESUS CHRIST). Keep in mind that flour is to wheat what blood is to the body. The oil of course being symbolic of the HOLY SPIRIT, and just as the oil spread throughout the flour, so was CHRIST's life permeated and actuated by the HOLY SPIRIT, which dwells with us today. The frankincense mentioned here, is what would ascend up unto GOD as a sweet savor, and you think about how this relates to us today, as it is our prayers that ascend up unto GOD, and when we praise and thank HIM, it brings HIM joy. Note that this offering is called minchâh in the Hebrew, and it is the same type of offering mentioned back in Genesis 4 with Cain and Abel, and also in Genesis 32 as Jacob's gift to Esau.
2 And he shall bring it to Aaron's sons the priests: and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar, to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD:
And so it was, the one making the offering would bring the ingredients unto the priests (Aaron's sons), who would carry this out. Keep in mind, this fine flour was used to make bread and what is our bread today? It is the WORD of GOD (our daily bread) which we are to live by everyday. See also: John 1:14 and John 6:51.
3 And the remnant (i.e. remaining) of the meat offering shall be Aaron's and his sons': it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire.
Note the seven different types of Holy offerings; the first three listed below are considered holy, and the last four listed are considered "most holy".
Holy:
4 And if thou bring an oblation (i.e. sacrificial present) of a meat offering baken in the oven, it shall be unleavened cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil.
Remember, leaven represents sin, so anything that was offered unto the priest and the LORD was to be unleavened. The oil of course as we went over earlier, being symbolic of the HOLY SPIRIT. Just as this offering was "baked" and tried by fire, so was the life of the Antitype (JESUS CHRIST) it represents, also tried as by fire, as HE was without sin and dealt with many sufferings, trials, and harsh conditions while here in the flesh. See also: 1 Peter 1:7, 1 Corinthians 3:13, Zechariah 13:9.
5 And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in a pan, it shall be of fine flour unleavened, mingled with oil.
6 Thou shalt part it in pieces, and pour oil thereon: it is a meat offering.
Again, this bread was the meat/meal offering presented unto the LORD and just as it was broken into pieces, so do we break bread today when we take Communion, as CHRIST commanded us to do in remembrance of HIM. See 1 Corinthians 11:23-26.
7 And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in the fryingpan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil.
8 And thou shalt bring the meat offering that is made of these things unto the LORD: and when it is presented unto the priest, he shall bring it unto the altar.
Again, this would ascend and be a sweet savor unto the LORD.
9 And the priest shall take from the meat offering a memorial thereof, and shall burn it upon the altar: it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
10 And that which is left of the meat offering shall be Aaron's and his sons' (i.e. the priests): it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire.
And so it was, only the priests were to consume it.
11 No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the LORD, shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the LORD made by fire.
Why no honey or leaven? Because leaven and honey have fermenting qualities and remember, leaven represents sin and also false doctrine (Matthew 16:6), and once the fermenting of false teachings of men begins, it corrupts everything in it. These two things were forbidden because there was no error or corruption in the Antitype (JESUS CHRIST) it represented, in the futuristic sense. All was Divine perfection.
12 As for the oblation of the firstfruits, ye shall offer them unto the LORD: but they shall not be burnt on the altar for a sweet savour.
First fruits are symbolic of GOD's Elect, which is why they aren't to be burnt on the altar.
13 And every oblation (i.e. sacrificial gift) of thy meat (i.e. meal) offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.
Salt represents preservation and strength, which sealed this agreement between them and GOD. It also preserved this meal as sometimes the priests did not consume of it for days after it was prepared. JESUS also said in Mark 9:49-50 "For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.", and remember our salt is how others see a difference in us, whereby they know we're set apart from the ways of this world in how we live; that fire of course represents GOD's SPIRIT (the HOLY SPIRIT [Hebrews 12:29]). Compare to Numbers 18:19, 2 Chronicles 13:5.
14 And if thou offer a meat offering of thy firstfruits unto the LORD, thou shalt offer for the meat offering of thy firstfruits green ears of corn dried by the fire, even corn beaten out of full ears.
This word "green ears" in the Hebrew is ʼâbîyb, which is named after the month Abib/Nisan, which is what starts the new year on the Hebrew and solar calendar, when the sun crosses the equator at the spring vernal equinox. Just as this corn was beaten, so again was the Antitype (JESUS CHRIST) this offering represented, in the futuristic sense, as HE took the stripes so that we could receive the healing (Isaiah 53:5).
15 And thou shalt put oil upon it, and lay frankincense thereon: it is a meat offering.
Again, the oil is symbolic of GOD's SPIRIT (the HOLY SPIRIT), and the frankincense can be viewed in the same sense, symbolizing our prayers ascending unto GOD.
16 And the priest shall burn the memorial of it, part of the beaten corn thereof, and part of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
This meat offering was the meal offering, and the fine flour that was used was a prime item, as it wasn't just grounded but perfect and ready, with no unevenness; the same applies to the life of the Antitype it represented (JESUS CHRIST). Holy:
- the thank offering (Leviticus 23:20, Numbers 6:20).
- the first born (Numbers 18:17).
- the first fruits (Leviticus 2:12).
- the incense (Exodus 30:36).
- the shewbread (Leviticus 24:9).
- the sin/trespass offering (Leviticus 6:25-29, 7:1, 7:6, 14:13).
- the meal/meat offering [here]) are considered the most holy.
