Always check out what you read and hear for yourself, using the Bible, asking our HEAVENLY FATHER for wisdom, guidance, and understanding. Never take anyone's word alone, including this website, without first doing your own homework. As Christians, we should be listening to GOD's WORD, not what someone else has to say if it can't be documented. As it's written in 2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Please note, the yellow text in our studies is Scripture, whereas the white text is our commentary.
Genesis 6
In the last chapter (Genesis 5), it left off with the man Adam and his generations (i.e. descendants), and as we come to this chapter, it continues with his descendants but specifically with the daughters who were of his genealogy. As we saw in one of our previous studies, "Did We All Come From Adam & Eve?", the word "man" as we see in our English Bibles, in the Hebrew can refer to mankind in general, men or a man, or a specific man, which all depends on how it's written. If you see it written as אָדָ֛ם in the Hebrew, it refers to man/mankind in general. If you see it as הָֽאָדָם in the Hebrew, it means the man or the men. If you see it as אֶת־הָֽאָדָ֗ם in the Hebrew, it refers to a particular man. Without knowing that, it makes it a little more difficult to understand the two different creations of man in Genesis 1 and Genesis 2. Also it should be noted that the whole reason the entire Old Testament focuses on the genealogy of Adam and Eve, and their descendants (who would later be know as the Hebrews and Israelites), is because JESUS CHRIST would eventually come through their genealogy when HE was born from the virgin Mary. Not because all of mankind (including every race/skin color) of people came from them. For this reason, there are Israelites and Gentiles (foreigners) mentioned in the Bible. If we all were descendants of Adam and Eve or Noah's family, there would be no reason for Scripture to differentiate between the Israelites and the Gentiles (foreigners), nor there would be no such thing as a Gentile at all. Deuteronomy 14:2 says "For thou art an holy people [in reference to the Israelites] unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth." It should be noted though that GOD is not a respecter of persons (see Deuteronomy 10:17, Romans 2:11), which means HE doesn't show favoritism due to someone's race or skin color as all are one in CHRIST (see Galatians 3:27-29, Romans 11:13-22) today, but the purpose for Israel being a set apart, chosen, people is so that GOD would have a family HE could lead and direct that would ensure HIS WORD and History would be kept for all generations to have (Acts 10:36, Matthew 24:14, Mark 16:15). For more information on the different creations of man, please see "Did We All Come From Adam & Eve?"
1 And it came to pass, when men (= הָֽאָדָם ʼâdam, [Strong's H120]) began to multiply on the face of the earth (= ʼădâmâh), and daughters were born unto them,
As we can see, this word "men" in the Hebrew has the article attached to it, which lets us know we're talking about "the men". In other words, the men from Adam, as the last chapter ended off with. As we go throughout this study, it should be noted also that this word "earth", as translated into the English, comes from two Hebrew words in this chapter: "ʼădâmâh" as we see here in this verse, and "ʼerets" as we will see in the next few verses. Although both of those words by definition can refer to the earth in general, depending on their usage and context, they can also refer to a particular region of land, as in most cases, which as we will come to see is most likely the case in this chapter too; especially when ʼădâmâh is used.
2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
These "sons of God" are mentioned in Job 2:1 and Job 38:7, and if you're familiar with the three world ages and satan's downfall, then you'll know a third of those "sons of God" decided to follow satan, when he rebelled against GOD, as Revelation 12:4 tells us. They are the fallen angels mentioned in Jude 1:6, "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day."
Again, CHRIST would eventually be born through the descendants of Adam, by the virgin Mary, and satan as well as these fallen angels knew that, which is why they targeted these women whereby they could attempt to destroy the perfect genealogy in which CHRIST was to come through, just as satan tried in Genesis 3, as you can see in our study "The Garden of Eden". For this reason, it is written in Revelation 12:3-5 "3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon (= satan, see Revelation 12:9), having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads (i.e. figuratively speaking for the one world system he uses). 4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child (i.e. in reference to CHRIST) as soon as it was born. 5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne." These fallen angels were trying to prevent Genesis 3:15 from coming to pass by corrupting the pure genealogy of CHRIST.
Some would say, "How is that even possible?" But when you consider that angels look just like we do (Genesis 19), contrary to what the world paints them as, and that we're made in the same image/resemblance as them (Genesis 1:26-27), it shouldn't really be a surprise. Just as the people in Lots days didn't know the angels apart from regular people, because they look just like people, neither will people in the end times be able to recognize the fallen angels who help satan establish his one world political and religious system.
3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
This 120 years would be the time until the flood came.
4 There were giants in the earth (= ʼerets) in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
As we can see, there were giants in those days, yet in previous chapters, there is no mention of them as they weren't part of GOD's creation in Genesis 1. "So where did they come from?" The sons of God (i.e. the fallen angels), when they mixed with the descended daughters of Adam. Again, they knew just as well as satan did, as they were followers of him, that CHRIST would one day come through the Adamic people's genealogy, and so it was their attempt to prevent that from happening whereby they could attempt to stop Salvation for mankind.
5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth (= ʼerets), and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth (= ʼerets), and it grieved him at his heart.
This word "repented" is "nâcham" in the Hebrew and it means GOD sighed or consoled. You can only imagine the hurt GOD would feel from all of this, knowing that HE's paving the way for Salvation to be brought unto all mankind, only for these people to try and mess it up, as they had no care about it, but instead had more care for satan and his fallen angels.
7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man (= אֶת־הָֽאָדָ֗ם 'eth-'Hâ'Âdhâm (Strong's H120) whom I have created from the face of the earth (= ʼădâmâh); both man (= הָֽאָדָם 'Hâ'Âdhâm (Strong's H120), and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
GOD created all people, neither morally good, nor bad, and in doing so, each person is given the choice with their own free will who they will choose to serve; HIM (LIFE) or satan (death). Don't ever believe the lie by critics that GOD makes someone evil. 2 Peter 3:9 tells us, "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." "But what about Isaiah 45:7?" Its context is in reference to calamity, not immorality. In other words, GOD makes peace and creates calamity. Why? To get the attention of HIS people and to get them to turn back to HIM when necessary. After all, moral evil is not a "thing" created, but a choice or intent contrary to GOD's character and commandments. Deuteronomy 32:4 even documents GOD makes no mistakes, "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he."
Getting back to this verse though, as we can see, GOD is talking about these particular men/women in this region whom HE is out to destroy from the face of the earth, not mankind (including gentiles) as a whole. Some may not understand why GOD included the animals too but knowing how wicked these people, giants, and fallen angels had become, it would be no surprise if they had gotten with them too. Leviticus 20:15 says, "And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast." Some act like this is just too far-fetched but when you look around at how people are doing this today, and how they don't even know what gender they are, and how numerous people are identifying as cats and dogs, calling themselves "furries", it should be no surprise that it likely took place in those days too.
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
As we will see here and more on below, only Noah and his family were the only one's of the Adamic race who had not corrupted themselves with the wicked and fallen ones.
9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
This word "generations" is "dôwr" in the Hebrew and refers to posterity. In other words, Noah had a perfect pedigree.
10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 The earth (= ʼerets) also was corrupt before God, and the earth (= ʼerets) was filled with violence.
A lot like we see today. Not a day goes by on the local news that someone doesn't get shot, fight, or show some kind of violence. JESUS told us it would be just like these days in the end times (Matthew 24:37-39, Luke 17:26-30).
12 And God looked upon the earth (= ʼerets), and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth (= ʼerets).
Most people see the words "all flesh" and assume it's referring to every species in the entire world. However, as we've already addressed a little bit earlier, the word "earth" in the Hebrew is "ʼerets", and by definition it means "the earth (at large, or partitively a land):—× common, country, earth, field, ground, land, × nations, way, + wilderness, world." In the King James Bible, "ʼerets" was translated as "land" 1,543 times, as "earth" 712 times, as "country" 140 times, and as "ground" 98 times. So as we can see, it doesn't always refer to the entire world, but rather part of a land/region as was most likely the case here. The same with the words "all flesh", as "all" doesn't always refer to every creature/person in the world, but rather every creature/person in that area, because if it literally meant all, then not even Noah, his wife, his sons, and the animals on the ark would have been saved but they were. Other examples of this are found in the next chapter (Genesis 7:21), 1 Chronicles 15:28 [compare to 1 Chronicles 15:2], Romans 16:19, and Revelation 13:3 [compare to Revelation 13:8] to name a few places. So as we will see, all in this region, excluding Noah and his family, were corrupted and later destroyed.
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth (= ʼerets) is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth (= ʼerets).
14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
This word "pitch" is "kâphar" in the Hebrew, and it means to coat/cover. It is also the only word in the Hebrew used for atonement in the Old Testament. It is only atonement that can keep the waters of judgment from us. Compare to 1 Corinthians 15:3, Hebrews 10:14.
15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
According to some scholars, one cubit ranges from 17.5 inches to about 25 inches, which would come out to be between 437.5 feet to 625 feet long, 72.9 feet to 104.1 feet wide, 43.75 feet to 62.5 feet tall. Just know that this ark was very large.
16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth (= ʼerets), to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth (= ʼerets) shall die.
18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.
20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth (= ʼădâmâh) after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
Examine what is typically taught for a moment. If Noah's flood covered the entire world as many Bible teachers claim, that means polar bears, penguins, alligators, and all kinds of species which are only found on opposite sides of the world, would have had to swim hundreds and thousands of miles to reach Noah's continent, or either Noah would have had to have travelled by boat to each continent and grab two of every unclean animal, and seven of every clean animal (see Genesis 7). Clearly that is not logical by any means, and even if you believe all continents were still joined as one at the time, there is not enough room on the ark to have stored over 14 million species of animals, as scientists estimate there are over 7 million species in this world. And that's just the species of animals alone, not even including the 20,000+ types of edible plants (food) in the world that Noah would have had to have stored on the ark to feed such a large number, as we see here. So based on what we have read in this chapter, and after examining the Hebrew words "ʼerets" and "ʼădâmâh" (which can refer to specific parts of land), clearly it wouldn't make any sense for this flood to have covered the entire world, especially when fresh and salt water would have mixed, which would force the fresh water to rise above the salt water, since it's less dense, making whales unable to come up for air. "But couldn't GOD have created more animals after the flood was over to replace the species that wouldn't have been able to survive?" HE could but that would be contrary to Scripture as GOD finished HIS creation in six days, as we read in Genesis 1. More creating is never mentioned. Also, there would have been no purpose for GOD to even ask Noah to preserve the animals if HE was just going to recreate afterwards.
22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
Imagine if Noah simply believed in the existence of a flood and that one day it would come, but never actually put in any work to build the ark, neither him nor his family would have survived as they too would have been destroyed. James 2:26 says, "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." Although it's due to GOD's amazing grace that saves us today (Ephesians 2:8-9), through our faith in CHRIST, if we don't have works, our faith clearly doesn't exist in who CHRIST is or what HE taught, 'cause if it did, we would do the things HE commanded us to do. Hence HE said in John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments."
So just as Noah put in work to build the ark, so should we too today put in work to study GOD's WORD, whereby we aren't deceived by satan's one-world, anti-christ, beast system, in the end times. Again, 2 Timothy 2:15 says, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.", and Epehsians 6:11-18 says, "11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"
1 And it came to pass, when men (= הָֽאָדָם ʼâdam, [Strong's H120]) began to multiply on the face of the earth (= ʼădâmâh), and daughters were born unto them,

Although it's due to GOD's amazing grace that saves us today (Ephesians 2:8-9), through our faith in CHRIST, if we don't have works, our faith clearly doesn't exist in who CHRIST is or what HE taught, 'cause if it did, we would do the things HE commanded us to do.
